are they ground covering and do they need to be planted certain distance apart from each other

Just been given some plants i think they could be petunia, where will they grow best ?
If they r petunias they grow very well in hanging baskets. that's were i put them. they do spread out if they have enough room. so you don't need to over crowd the basket. window boxes or pots are good for them to. they are normally planted in summer early June. plant now but be carefull of frost. they flower really well to. and can be really nice just on there own. good luck
Reply:Petunia's grow in most places-window boxes, tubs, flower borders etc. Avoid anywhere too shady or damp. Plant about 3 inches apart as will spread. Water lightly daily if very sunny weather.
Reply:full sun or partial shade plant as you like
Reply:My advice is to take your plants to the garden department of a WalMart or even better, to a greenhouse to ask what kind of plants they are and what kind of care they need. Some plants need LOTS of water, if they get too little they will die. Some plants are just the opposite, and need water sparingly or they will drown and die. Some enjoy the high sun (heat) others could wither quickly and die that way.

If indeed they are petunias, these are a high sun lover, meaning they need lots of light and very little shade. You'll also have to dead head them (pull off old blooms) to keep them blooming, pinch (with finger and thumb) back about an inch to keep them from getting long and leggy. Fertilize with a weak solution of Miricle Grow every two weeks for bigger plants with lots of blooms.
Reply:In the sun.

Are there auditions for young lily and petunia in harry potter 7?

when harry potter goes in the pensieve. when and where are they? age range...etc

Are there auditions for young lily and petunia in harry potter 7?
i know it would be fun to be in the harry potter films, as i would love to to! but the producers said that they only hold open auditions, like for luna lovegood, if they can't fill the spot with a proper actor. The last book, is going to be made into TWO movies, as they can't fit it all in one, how they will do it i don't know. but they said they will be using their own actors, and open calls are there last options. sorry :( , check ''the stage'' magazine though, they have lots of auditions, well sometimes ;)

What do you think is the "special" thing about aunt petunia in the deathly hallows?

JKR has said that neither Petunia nor any of the Dursleys will actually be doing any magic. So I think that the revelation about Petunia will be that she knows more about magic and/or has more respect for Lily's abilities than she's ever let on.

What do you think is the "special" thing about aunt petunia in the deathly hallows?
J.K. Rowling has said that she won't be the one who does magic later in life, so I think it's that she had contact with the magical world/Dumbledore that she didn't tell Harry or Vernon about.
Reply:I can't imagine anything being special about her.

Perhaps she will be the first killed off, that is pretty special I think!
Reply:Dumbledore sent a "howler" in a red envelope to say, "Remember my last!" This was never explained in the early stories, but it means that Dumbledore had placed Harry in the Dursley's care, with special instructions to keep him safe regardless,

How much is Petunia involved in it all?

i think she knows allot, but will she tell?...i think that the 7 book will have allot more to do with lily's family and friends then any of the others. the 6th book talked more about lily than the 5 before it so t i think her sister should be spilling some beans soon....

How much is Petunia involved in it all?
i think every reader thinks she will end up a larger part in the books, but i think jo won't end up doing that. though it would be really interesting. like in book 6 when they talked about dudley, i keep thinking he will end up as a bigger role in 7. though i doubt it shall be...

she definitly knows more then she is admiting. she may be one who kept harry safe, and that she cares about him , though not wanting to admit it.

I can't wait till 7 comes out, it will leave us with more cliffhangers though...
Reply:Are you talking about Harry Potter-cause I soo think she knows way more than she's letting on. For, a while I thought that she might have been a secret keeper and that was what was keeping harry safe in the dursleys but tht idea pretty much got smashed to hell in book6!!

secret=where Harry was living-remember Dumbledore was secret keeper for Lily and James when they lived in Godrics Hollow.
Reply:i dont think petunia will have a bigger role in the final book. jk rowling's plot has so many loopholes that need fixing and if she puts petunia in the picture that will only consume the much needed space in the book that should be intended to straighten the more important issues and questions left by rowling like why didnt voldemort use a time-turner to defeat harry and vise-versa. the story sucks. have a nice day

What was revealed about petunia in book 7?

That she knew Snape at a young girl.

What was revealed about petunia in book 7?
In what book? o.o
Reply:that she wanted to be a witch! She even wrote a letter to Dumbledore begging him to accept her in hogwarts!
Reply:so many things! you should really read it but ill tell you anyway. so theres a part in the book that there's flashback to petunia's and lilys childhood, and snape is also in it and petunia says how she thinks wizards and witches are weird and also that petunia had wanted to be accepted to hogwarts and even sent a letter to dumbeldore, it's very strange, but theres a lot of good stuff in book 7
Reply:That she knew Snape, wanted to be a witch but couldn't and therefore despised her sister.
Reply:That she not only knew about hogwarts but wrote to Dumbledore pleading to be admitted to the school.
Reply:She wanted to be a witch and even applied to Hogwarts.
Reply:she wanted to be a witch just like lily so she pleaded to dumbledore when she was younger.

What do you think, just had a brill idea, welI I think so, alternate blue and yellow petunia's for edging.

Well I'm still thinking, by the fire, reading my T %26amp; M seed book.

What do you think, just had a brill idea, welI I think so, alternate blue and yellow petunia's for edging.
I think you have hit the nail on the head here. I did this some years and people remarked that the scheme had a regal look to it. After last years wet summer I advise the rain resistant type. It'll look bostin' mate.
Reply:Sounds nice. I love petunias. You remind me of my Mom. She used to garden a lot and she was always going over her seed catalogs this time of year planning her garden.

Is the ruellia or mexican petunia native to florida, and if not, is it invasive?

I'm not sure of the species your talking about but I do know that Ruellia stepens and Ruellia caroliniensis are natives in the US they can be found in the woods/woodland edges and clearings. To my knowledge these are not invasive plants.

Is the ruellia or mexican petunia native to florida, and if not, is it invasive?
I'm not sure about ruellia or if either is native to Florida, but I did get a start off Mexican Petunias from a friend and I try to keep them contained but they seem to find their way out of the borders anyway!

use malty vitamin for them and don't watering them daily just each 3 days !!

What would eat the blooms on a petunia in a hanging basket. The damage looks like a slug but there no tracks?

It might be the Japanese Beetle infestation. Hard to say.

Doesn't matter what or who did it. It's done, so spray every plant with Sevin. Problem solved.

Why is my petunia drying up?.?

The leaves of my petunia are drying up.the soil is wet but whats the reason the leaves are drying up.I water them once in 4 days.Is petunia a perrinal?

Why is my petunia drying up?.?
Petunias are not perennials. It could be at the end of its lifespan. Also, over watering can cause very similar symptoms to under watering, so that might be your problem.
Reply:maybe one of the following

1. too much water

2. sudden room tempature change( I am in new england, we turn heat on now and the temp is different)

3.not enough lights.

Do you like the names Petunia and Bonnie?

i do, i like Petunia Janelle and I would call her Toony.

for Bonnie she would be Bonnie Faith and I would call her Bo

what do you think? I'm not pregnant just wondering what you all think.

Do you like the names Petunia and Bonnie?
its cool
Reply:Uggh. No. Please don't do that to a child.
Reply:I don't like those name at all. Janelle sounds really cute though.
Reply:I don't like Petunia at all. The name Janelle is adorable though. Bonnie Faith is very cute. I like the nick name Bo or Bon even.
Reply:No, I'm sorry I don't like Petunia. Petunia is a flower that I wouldn't like for the naming of a girl. If these are your only choices I would go with Bonnie Faith. Bonnie has been used as a nick name for Bonita. I have a friend who we call Bonnie.
Reply:Petunia is the name of a cartoon pig so if you want your child teased relentlessly then torture her with that name.

Bonnie is fine. Janelle is fine. Faith is fine.
Reply:NO WAY, but that's just me, they will have to be taken serious some day, and they wont with those names, and just think of the trauma it will cause in school.
Reply:yuk!!!! sorry but i think those are two or the worst names you could have came up with. maybe when you do get pregnant you will change your mind.....at least i hope so.
Reply:Porky Pig's girlfriend is named Petunia, so no I don't like that one. Bonnie is nice, but I wouldn't call a girl Bo.
Reply:Petunia is pretty, but Bonnie is kind of dated- a little too 1970's. Petunia Janelle is a great combination.
Reply:I think Bonnie is dated, but I love Bo. I'd use Isabeau with the nickname Beau instead.

Petunia is darling, but probably too much so. Plus, while the name appeared in the Harry Potter books, Petunia Dursley is not an appealing character. So there's not much to save this flower-power name.
Reply:uck....badbadbad...

gross names but if you had to pick one go with petunia
Reply:Petunia could be an unfortunate choice, since I've only heard it used as farm names for cows and pigs. Neither of your girls would ever thank you for nicknaming them Toony (think of Looney Toons) or Bo. You would make it easy for every bully at school.
Reply:the only thing that comes to mind regarding petunia is a pig. so i vote no for that
Reply:I don't like either name
Reply:theses are really bad names i dont think your kid will like them then will have to waste money to change there name to somthing they like!!! so just pick some others then ask i luv the name jillian!! if you lookin or amy or merideth
Reply:No. I don't like them. Petunia reminds me of Porky Pig's girlfriend and Bonnie reminds me of Bonnie and Clyde. They also sound like old lady names. Faith and Janelle are nice middle names.
Reply:Petunia literally made me laugh out loud. Sorry.
Reply:I think Petunia is a very frilly name, and also you can consider that Petunia Dursley is a character in Harry Potter, and not particularly the kindest one, so it may not be the best name for a child. I think Bonnie is sweet as a nickname, but for a first name? Yikes. Maybe Elizabeth, and you could call her Bonnie? Just a suggestion :)
Reply:PETUNIA doesn't sound well.

better change it.
Reply:Bonnie Faith is ok (Please don't call her Bo, Bonnie is fine the way it is).

I don't like Petunia, and calling her Tooney is just plain mean. Janelle is ok.
Reply:It's not too late to head to Barnes and Nobles for a name book.....
Reply:Don't like Petunia it sounds like a name for a pet.
Reply:Those are horrible names, please find alternate names for your upcoming children.

Were the words to Petunia by dumbledore''remember my last '' ever explained?

I thought maybe this may have been explained in book 7 unless I missed it,obviously it was some sort of promise made by Petunia to Dumbledor, was it simply she promised to take Harry in or was it Dumbledor had something over her?

Were the words to Petunia by dumbledore''remember my last '' ever explained?
Yes they were explained in the fifth book. "The last" was the letter Dumbledore left together with Harry on the doorstep at Privet Dr. when Harry's parents were killed. It explained about the deaths of Lily and James, and that as long as Harry remains in their home he is magically protected by Voldemort. Dumbledore just reminded Petunia that they mustn't throw Harry out of the house, at least not until his seventeenth birthday when the protection stops.
Reply:When she was a child, Petunia wrote a letter to Dumbledore asking if she could go to Hogwarts with her sister Lily. It's unclear whether he accepted her or not, but Lily and Snape read the letter, and Petunia was embarrassed. Here on out she referred to her sister as a "freak".

I think this was the last correspondance between Lily and Dumbledore until the howler, and I really don't know what it means, but that's the last letter she wrote to him.
Reply:she agreed to have harry stay in her house it involves a spell to keep harry safe it is explained in book she was not sent a howler
Reply:Dumbledore's Howler message to Petunia "Remember my last" refers to the last letter he sent her - the letter pinned to Baby Harry's blankets explaining that his parents were dead and the Dursley's would need to look after him.

Book 7 does explain Dumbledore's correspondence with Petunia PREVIOUS to both these letters.
Reply:It was explained at the end of book five and some have queried JKR about and and she explained in interview, remember my last refers to the letter Dumbledore left for Petunia with Harry in the first book explaining that Harry and the Dursleys can only be safe from Voldemort if they live together under Lily's protection.
Reply:I never got that either. I think it's something he explained in his letter to her when Harry was dropped on her doorstep, but I never heard him tell harry about it.
Reply:It was that she promised to take Harry in

The flowers on my petunia are "molting". They have tiny reddish brown spots that take them over.?

Could this be a disease...overwatering....

The flowers on my petunia are "molting". They have tiny reddish brown spots that take them over.?
It sounds like "rust", Warm days, cool nights and moisture encouraged rust to grow.It can also survive in fallen leaves and debris Left in your garden area.

Control with a fungicide spray one that contains, triforene or triadimefon. Wettable sulfur will also work but I would suggest the spray. Keep the Debris cleaned around your garden and pull back on the water. Let the plant stay on the "dry" side for a while and always water early enough in the day that there is not any moisture left on your plants by nightfall. You can find fungicides at any garden center...hang in there

Good luck and God Bless

Reply:I agree with Grandma,

After the frost what should I do with my petunia vines or limbs. Should i cut them off or just let them be?

I know that they will come back in the spring but should I cut off the dead limbs or just kind of pile them in the basket. I planted them in a huge barrell and they have overflowed. I really just need to know what to do with them. thanks

After the frost what should I do with my petunia vines or limbs. Should i cut them off or just let them be?
petunias are usually annuals, although i have had them come back.. i will usually cut them back now.. come spring you will get new growth (or they will die) and get some mulch around them (not on top) if you leave the old stems, the new growth will try to grow off of them, making the plant look very straggly.
Reply:I usually treat petunias as annuals. I remove them in late late summer, so I don't have to clean up the slimy flowers and stems and leaves after a heavy frost.

Who felt bad for Petunia after the 7th Harry Potter book?

i sort of felt bad. i mean, she actually wanted to a witch, and yet her sister was the magical one.

i felt really bad.

and i give Dudley two thumbs up for manning up and growing a good heart.

Who felt bad for Petunia after the 7th Harry Potter book?
yea. I wish that had been explored a litlte more, perhaps in the epilogue.

particularly when the last we see of Petunia, she is described as looking back as though she wants to say more, but chooses not to. And the question of how often and why she and Dumbledore corresponded isn't answered ... I'm curious ...
Reply:I felt bad for her because her hopes were smashed and it turned her into a bitter woman
Reply:I felt a bit bad for her. I was kinda hoping she'd soften like Dudley did. I was a *little* disappointed that there wasn't some mention of Dudders at the end, like perhaps he and Harry didn't totally exclude each other from their lives....
Reply:Yeah. I did too. But at the same time, I can't forgive her for the way she treated Harry. Miserable woman!

I had to reread the part with Dudley. I just couldn't believe my eyes!
Reply:i n\know! i felt terrible for her. i always wonder why she loathed lily so much.....i actually really liked her though she was cold and all....she took harry to raise him....sad...

i was quiet stunned at dudley too! very brave of him!
Reply:I could have told you she wanted the powers after seeing the first movie how dumb are you people? I'm not reading this book no way

How much to charge as a Nanny?

What if its Petunia Dursley who finally perfoms magic in Harry Potter?

JK said that they is going to be someone who will perfom magic, its rare in later life but is happens in the book. What if its Petunia Dursley, her sister Lilly, Harry's mum had abilities so it could happen. Now that would be a good twist. Oh will it be Dudley Dursely?

What if its Petunia Dursley who finally perfoms magic in Harry Potter?
It would be nice if it was Petunia! I mean imagine the reaction of Vernon.

Dudley? I doubt. He never showed anything closer to intelligence, so let's not talk about magic.

I have no idea who else would it be. Filch doesn't have a big part, so it would make no sense.
Reply:if it was dudley why didnt he get picked to go to hogwarts
Reply:Let's wait until tomorrow, dear - to know for sure about that final 'twist' to Ms J K Rowling's tall 'tale' !

Guesses can only help build-up unwarranted tensions...

:-))
Reply:J.K. Rowling already said it won't be Petunia, It'll either be Arabella Figg or Argus Filch. It could be Dudley, but I doubt it. though it would be good.
Reply:Hm. interesting question, but I think it would be someone who at least knows something about magic.
Reply:end of the world, surely the universe couldn't take this much unexpected drama, even if it's only imaginary drama.
Reply:i think that dudley is to much of a dope to perform magic. i don't think that it is going to happen to any of them but i think that they will get involved in some way in the final book. even if one of them did find out they had magical powers, they despise magic folk so much thinking they're nothing but freaks i think that they'd attempt to cover it up anyway, would want to besmudge the dursley name. it probably wouldn't last. great idea though, top notch

My kids really overwatered my petunia flowers i bought today?

I replanted them in a bigger container, and my kids filled up the thing with water. Now I have dirt all over the flowers and the dirt is nothing but mud. Can they be saved?

My kids really overwatered my petunia flowers i bought today?
puck a whole on the side of the pot you have them in... on the back so it isnt visible.... and this trick kinda works but its weird... get a cheap sponge and place it in the dirt.. the sponge will soak up some of the extra water pretty fast and then squeeze it out.... place the pot in the sun.. petunias love sun if the pot is draining then the water isnt sitting and the roots wont mold good luck!!! i have used the sponge trick when hubbie over watered my purple passion plant
Reply:as long as the soil is well drainedas it should be, they can be. However, if after a day or two, the petunias arestill very very soggy, it means you don't have them in the full sun they like, so moving them won't hurt.
Reply:make sure the pot is draining! if it is ur in luck. just let em dry out for about a week or so and they'll be fine! the more sun petunias get the better! make sure u deadhead old blooms too! good luck!
Reply:i would let them dry out, put them on south facin wall. But i would also water the kids gd luck.

Can anyone now give me the meaning of "Petunia remember my last"?

Which ultimately keeps Harry with the Durselys in one of the books

I'm not sure I'm clear on the answer after reading 7

Can anyone now give me the meaning of "Petunia remember my last"?
when harry was dropped off at the durleys house, dumbly left a note to petunia telling her he was protected.. yadda yadda. the howler was to remind her of his last note, or the note with the baby that bound her to keep her word of keeping harry until he comes of age when she accepted to take baby harry in and take care of him.
Reply:It's "My last [letter]" referring to the letter he left with Harry when he left Harry on the Dursley's doorstep.
Reply:It's something to do with her writing to Dumbledore as a child asking if she can join Hogwarts like her sister. He sent her a letter back saying No. by "my last.." he means "my last correspondence.."
Reply:That's one of my questions, too! I thought perhaps it had been answered in #6, and I just forgot about it. I'm going to have to go back and read the whole series again.
Reply:The last time Dumbledore sent Petunia a letter was when he dropped Harry off on her doorstep when he was a baby. In the letter he (if I recall correctly) explained the situation surrounding James %26amp; Lily's death, and the charms %26amp; enchantments put on the Dursley's house to protect Harry. Remember - those charms were only effective as long as Harry could call the Dursley's house "home." So when Vernon %26amp; Petunia wanted to kick Harry out, Dumbledore had to remind Petunia of his last letter.
Reply:At the end of the 5th book, Dumbledore tells Harry that he sent the howler. It was to remind her of the danger Harry was in when she took him in as a baby. "Remember my last" just means remember the note I left with baby Harry. Lame, but true.

I live in Texas what time of year can I plant the plant called mexican petunia?

Information is found at the link below. This plant escapes it's borders and reseeds, FYI. It says that it can't be planted until after frosts, so you'll need to wait a bit in most areas. I know we're still getting near-freezes in Houston.

How do i cut off the dead flowers on my petunia's?

do i pull out the flowers and cut them below at the stem

How do i cut off the dead flowers on my petunia's?
no don't pull out the flowers just snip them off right underneath the flowers which is called " deadheading".. instead of wasting its energy on the dead flowered part it can now send all its energy into the stems+ roots...
Reply:cut them below at the stem with scissors...this will let the heal faster, then if you tear them
Reply:You only have to pull off the dead petals, because you can leave the flower head on there to let it bloom next year or elso you won't have anmore flowers next year.
Reply:get something very sharp, and CUT!

Try shears! Or pruning shears.
Reply:You put the flower under your thumb and repeat the following:

'Mama had a baby and the head popped off',

as you flick your thumb and the flower goes flying away.

Seriously, get good pruning sheers, and cut the stem right below the flower. By cutting away all the dead ones, you will encourage the growth of new flowers. The plant is tricked into thinking that it has not produced its offspring (seeds).
Reply:We deadhead thousands of petunias every year in the greenhouse. It's a sticky job, but somebody has to do it.

The best way to deadhead and promote rebloom is to follow the stem the bloom is on down to where it joins the main stem and pinch or cut there. Don't damage the main stem, which I imagine is why some people insist you must cut the bloom off. If you have any thumbnail, the pinch works fine and is much quicker for a lot of deadheading than placing secateurs or shears and cutting each one.

By the way, this deadhead method is recommended for lots of blooming plants, and usually increases the subsequent bloom by manyfold!
Reply:only cut the edges off
Reply:If you want to do that work (which is helpful to making the plant continue to bloom and look nice), you can pinch them just below the flower (at the stem). Otherwise, the flowers will fall off when spent.

Petunias do not like to dry out.
Reply:Ya just pinch 'em off with your thumb %26amp; forefinger...right at the dead flower...
Reply:Gently "pluck" off the dead petals. Don't even have to cut off any of the stem. Katiez172 is correct, this is called "deadheading". If they are wilted or already dried up and brown, they should come off with very little pull.
Reply:You got it "Lulu"!
Reply:pinch the flower off right under the stem
Reply:could probably just pull them off
Reply:pinch them off under the blossom, close to the stem.
Reply:I have been pulling the flower out for years. Just started to cut or pinch the whole flower head off. Have not noticed much difference in re-blooming.

I love what fabric selections and colors Petunia Pickle Bottom has. Does anyone know who their supplier is or where someone sells cute Brocade fabric?

Where can I buy darling Brocade Fabric like Petunia Pickle Bottom has on their bags?
This fabric isn't a brocade. It's a European cut velvet with wool tweed. Here a a few links that may carry it. You can always use the contact link and email them a link to the fabric to ask them if they have it.

Or you can contact Petunia Pickle Bottom to ask who their supplier is...

The other solution is to go to New York City in the garment and fabric district and shop the stores... You'll find it there for sure. Bring a picture with you, to make things easier.

How do I deadhead petunia's correctly for max growth?

extend 2 fingers.... grasp dead/dieing flower pull till flower comes off... voila... u have ur first dead head...

p.s. don't think too hard about it.... plants die when people think too hard

How do I deadhead petunia's correctly for max growth?
Just snap them off at the end of the bloom. You can also cut them off at the next leaf and that will help.

How do you take care of wave petunia's?

Dead-head them regularly and water them when they need it. Trim them up at the end of the season and they'll stay fresh awhile longer.

How do you take care of wave petunia's?
Lots of water
Reply:with a flame thrower
Reply:Hi,

Taking care of wave petunias is pretty much the same as regular ones. Dead head the old blooms and fertilize about once a month with a commercial product. There are some out now that will last for 3 months with just one application.

Petunias like it in a semi shady area and will start to get scraggly about the end of August beginning of September in Ohio. If they are potted make sure you keep them watered well as they will droop if not. I find the deep purple ones to have a fragrance to them.

Enjoy! Petunias are my favorite garden flower.

What happened to my poor petunia?

It was doing GREAT! The best looking hanging plant on the street. When I got home last night, I noticed little brown poppyseed looking "things" all over. I wasn't sure what it was so I sprayed it with an insect spray made by Shultz. A few hours lady the plant had splotches all over it and is dying quickly. Any advice to save my plant? Thanks.

What happened to my poor petunia?
Your growning skills were so good that your Annual Petunias have seeded...! On the other hand now that they have produced their seeds they will want to begin to decline as they are annuals.

Especially if it is hot and humid in your area.

Fortunately you can get a second round of full blooms that will last until frost. This will require a pair of scissors and some intestinal fortitude.

You must cut back your plant - it is reccomended to cut the stalks back as much as 50%.

I know - it's tough to do.

You do not need to replant it. (if you so you will diminish the flowering power for several weeks). But you must water dailty, maybe twice per day ...and fertilize the basket once a week roughly.

(I know it seems like it needs new soil... trust me, this is a bad practice - it's a short lived shallow rooted plant, replanting it will encourage energy for root growth and vastly diminish the few precious weeks left of flowering.)

http://www.yardener.com/CaringForPetunia...
Reply:What you might have seen are the seeds of the petunia plant.

Rinse off the plant. If you see where the plant has stopped losing leaves, cut it back slightly. Petunias in late summer often need a good cutting back to rejuvenate them. If it is still doing well, I would give it a weak solution of bloom booster too -- but don't overdo it.

Also, you should be deadheading the blooms once they die. Do not wait for seed heads to form. Snip off or break off dead blooms immediately. The more you do this the more the plant will produce additional blooms for you.
Reply:I hate it when that happens! cut it back several inches and hope for the best. I love petunias but have only had luck with "the wave" variety. petunias are prone to get aphids. if the plant feels sticky, that's the problem. plants in containers also have to be fertilized once a week with a flowering plant fertilier. I have given up on petunias and buy impatience plants because nothing seems to eat them. happy gardening!
Reply:rinse it and put it in new soil and go from there . Hope it survives good luck .
Reply:The poppyseed looking "things" may have been seeds. See photos of petunia seeds at http://www.flickr.com/photos/11145365@N0...

Overwatering petunias can cause them to brown and die (guess how I know that!) but that does not seem to be your case.

Since you didn't list the exact type of insect spray, it is difficult to tell you what might have happened. Schultz makes so many different products, so I can't tell if the spray harmed your petunias. You may not be able to save them.
Reply:Pests and Diseases

Petunias are usually quite pest free. Aphids occasionally attack both young and established plants; knock them off with a spray of water. Rain can damage some plants, particularly grandiflora types. can also be troublesome in humid weather.

Please look at this links it has the pictures and the solution of different kind of petunia diseases:

Can petunia plants in OH live all year long, if so how would I care for them?

I have seen some petunia plants survive a mild Ohio winter, but usually they die with the first frost. If it doesn't get cold and the plant is covered with mulch, it may make it through the winter.

The easiest way to save a plant is to put it in a pot and take it indoors for the winter.

Can petunia plants in OH live all year long, if so how would I care for them?
Although technically they are perennials, we treat them as annuals here in North America. (The original plant came from Argentina.)

No, a petunia plant will usually not overwinter in a northern climate like Ohio has.

I have had luck bringing a potted petunia inside and placing it in a sunny window sill. It bloomed freely and was planted successfully outside again in the spring.

Petunias will set seeds and these seeds will overwinter in a northern zone, but the plants they produce the following growing season will not flower like those of the parent plant -- petunias grown like this revert back to a viney plant and colors seen in wild petunias (white and lavender).
Reply:No, petunias are annuals. If you leave them out for the winter they will die. Usually by the end of the summer they are too leggy and should be disposed of.
Reply:Petunias are annuals, which mean they do not winter over. When they have expired, just plant some new seeds.
Reply:no not unless you take them in
Reply:Petunias are perennials that are usually grown as annuals.

I have white petunias flowering in my garden in California right now that I planted LAST spring!! So I KNOW that they will come back the second year!!

I don't know if they will take REALLY cold weather, like snow. Here is what I did: the petunias were in a pot that I have in full sun. I pinched them back in late winter and fed them in early spring. I kept them well watered if there wasn't any rain.

Good Luck!!
Reply:Petunia plants only last till the frost hits. Pinch them back when you plant so they don't get leggy.
Reply:yes if u bring em inside during the winter months and water like once a month till spring.. they just might survive! I'm trying it this year. I have some good colored plants i'd like to save! good luck!
Reply:If you're asking if they will come back next spring, they will not because they're annual. If you just want to plant them for the summer, they love lots of sun. When the flowers die, pull them off the plant. You'll get more blooms that way.

What was the special thing about aunt petunia in the deathly hallows?

The fact that she wanted to be part of the magical world when she was young. Then when she was in adult she made the magic world seem like it was the worse thing in the world and only freaks are part of it. So she was a hypocrical and jealous muggle.

What was the special thing about aunt petunia in the deathly hallows?
She wanted to go to Hogwarts and even wrote a letter to Dumbledore begging him to let her in.
Reply:I think it was that she actually was jealous of Lily. She had written Dumbledore a letter asking to be able to come to Hogwarts.
Reply:I think they meant the special thing about her was that she knew snape and maybe wanted to be like Lily (or not). That's what I got from it.
Reply:well you find out that she was jelouse of Lily. She had written a letter to Hogwarts asking to go to that school. but rejected because she isn't a witch.. and you can see that they were close sisters. everytime snape did something to her, lily would get mad at him..
Reply:when petunia and lily were younger and lily got accepted to hogwarts, petunia was jealous and wrote to dumbledore asking to be let in to hogwarts (even though she wasnt a witch). dumbledore denied her entry, which she was really sad about. petunia and lily were close so im guessing that once lily started going to hogwarts they started drifting apart. once lily graduated from hogwarts im guessing they became estranged at that point since they were at such different points in the world. im also guessing that once petunia had dudley she was hoping that he might have a place in hogwarts one day, and when harry came around who was from a wizarding family, petunia thought that since harry was around maybe some of his magic would rub off on dudley. perhaps when dudley showed zero signs of magic that was when petunia lost hope in ever being a part of the magical world (beyond that of being harry's aunt). perhaps this is why in the 5th (or was it 6th?) when vernon is trying to throw harry out of the house petunia says that he should stay...she still wants the connection to the magical world....her sisters world...even if its through harry

Why is Lily Potter a witch, but Petunia is not in Harry Potter?

Aren't siblings usually the same form of being? I didn't understand that part.

Why is Lily Potter a witch, but Petunia is not in Harry Potter?
Lily Potter (the mother of Harry Potter) is a muggle born witch, or mudblood. Lily's magical powers came about as somewhat of a genetic flaw. Her sister Petunia did not inherit this flaw, therefore she is like their parents, a muggle. Just like reality, siblings inherit different traits from their parents. Just because Lily is a witch doesn't mean Petunia has to be one too. Hermione Granger is the same as Lily, her parents are muggles, but she is a witch.
Reply:Thanks Report It

Reply:petunia isn't a witch because she skipped a gene
Reply:Her parents had the recessive genes for being magical and they both gave one to Lily, so she was a witch. She was just lucky (I'm just guessing that you know how genes and junk work). 0.0
Reply:Petunia got skipped when getting the magic gene.
Reply:No, that's not necessary true. Even in a magical family one of the kids can be a squib.
Reply:the wizards and witches from the school saw the potential Lily had to be a witch. why can you understand Hermione being a witch and not Petunia?

Mexican Bluebell is an upright or spreading perennial that

is known as a strong grower under adverse conditions (Fig. 1).

This 18- to 30-inch-tall plant has light green leaves that are

medium in texture. Blue, violet, red or pink flowers appear on

this perennial in the spring, summer and fall. These flowers are

showy, and their nectar is appealing to various species of

butterflies. Plants can grow into small flowering shrubs in the

warmest parts of south Florida where freezes do not occur.

Use and Management

Mexican Bluebell may be used as ground covers and in

perennial borders. They are attractive when massed together or

planted in a container where flexible stems droop over the pot.

Place Ruellia in an area of the landscape that receives full

to partial shade. These species will grow best in well-drained

soils and are very drought and salt tolerant. Ruellia species will

be frozen to the ground in the winter but regrowth should occur

from the roots.

These plants may be propagated by seed or cuttings.

Ruellia can become invasive, as it readily reseeds itself.

Pests and Diseases

No pests or diseases are of major concern.
Reply:my mother had these, they are beautful, I don't remember them being very invasive

When you deadhead a petunia, does it help or hurt the plant to take the stem with it?

I'm not sure it's the stem, but the "green cup" that holds the flower. Sometimes mine don't come out so easily and I take the cup and a small part of the stem with it. The plant is amazingly healthy and full, so I'm not worried about killing it or anything. I just thought in doing that that I might be contributing to more lanky growth rather than more flowers. Thanks!

When you deadhead a petunia, does it help or hurt the plant to take the stem with it?
You must take the 'green cup' as this will develop into seeds and make your petunias lazy. Don't worry about taking the stem, they are pretty hardy.
Reply:Sounds like your doing a fine job. Keep up the good work!
Reply:As long as you make sure that the cup is off then it will be ok. I take off the flower stem aswell as it can look scruffy later in the season.
Reply:it shouldnt hurt the plant

just make sure that it gets enough water during the day

especially if it's a hot day, they tend to dry out quickly

and keep in sun-part sun

morning or evening sun seems to the best
Reply:It will not hurt the plant to deadhead it as you are doing. This is what Mama does with hers and she has never killed a plant. This will not contribute to more lanky growth. It will cause more flowers as you know.
Reply:well its better to take just the cup but if you just take a littel bit of the stem its ok

Does anyone have any information about how to care for a Petunia?

I receive one free, and I mainly would like to know if you can keep them inside. Any other information about them would be great!

Does anyone have any information about how to care for a Petunia?
I have kept a petunia alive and flowering in the wintertime. (Actually, I dug it up from my garden where it had been planted in the spring -- it grew beautifully the next year when planted outside again.) You have to keep it by a sunny window, in fact, it is one "houseplant" (if you can call it that) that must be close to the window. As an annual (a plant you grow outdoors for one year), it needs lots of sun and quite frankly, a good soaking when watering. When the flower blooms fade, break them off the plant. This is called deadheading and it forces the plant to continually set blooms throughout the season. I have also found that at some point during the summer, it is best to trim petunias back a little. This produces branchinig and more flowers within a week or so. If you allow a petunia to "vine" too much, it might stop flowering altogether -- I've even seen some die. Hope this helps. A little shot of miracle grow -- a mild solution of it -- every once and while in the winter would not hurt either -- although I have to admit, I've never had to do that and still got lots of winter blooms. I do give potted petunias outside though a couple of such doses of fertilizer throughout the summer growing season. Hope this helps. Good luck. P.S. If brought indoors, the petunia must get aclimated (used to) the room that it is in.
Reply:Petunias are pretty easy to care for, and they are so beautiful! They need lots of sun, and lots of water. It is also good to feed them with MiracleGro about once a week or once every other week. If they start to wilt, they need more water. I'm not sure about keeping them inside...I've never done that...but I think it would be okay as long as you have a nice light place for it to be. Also, when there are dead blossoms you need to pinch them off right at the base of the flower. This helps encourage new blossoms and keeps your plant healthy.
Reply:You can keep them inside in a pot by a bright sunny window.. to take care of them keep them watered.. pick a day.. Say Saturday.. water a glass full of water. or to check to see if it needs water stick your finger in the dirt if it is dry up to your second knuckle it needs water if it is damp no water.

when the blooms die pick them off it will keep them blooming for a very long time. better out side but inside in a sunny spot works too. i use to put mine in hanging baskets in the house just to have something blooming in the winter time..

good luck
Reply:Petunias would really rather be- outside. They like lots of bright sunshine, watering twice a week, %26amp; to have their dead flowers picked off. If you HAVE TO grow it indoors- put it in your sunniest window, %26amp; water it like I said. Either way- it should bloom until October when you can throw it out.
Reply:You can keep them inside, but they like a lot of sun and if it doesn't get enough, it will die. Also, it is an annual (which means it's only meant to live through the summer, then die), so it MAY make it through the winter, if you're lucky, but it probably won't just because of, again, not getting enough light.
Reply:Petunias are very easy to care for. Plant it in potting soil and water it every day for about a week and than every other day after that. Keep it by a window because it likes sunlight. It takes awhile for it to get bigger and than gets beautiful blossoms on it.
Reply:I think it is better plant the petunia outside or plant it in the pot and place the pot out door, because the plant need lot of sun.Pinch tips about 1 inch to make it bushy. Mulch to conserve moisture.Fertilize every 3 or 4 week.To keep it blooming you must Deadhead every day,if you can.If plant get leggy, cut back about 1/2,so that the plant will rejuvenate

Reply:Petunias are annuals. To keep them alive, you must pick off the dead or wilted ones so that the plant won't dry up and go to seed. Give them a little Miracle Grow once in a while and they should be dandy!

My sister just got a Petunia. How often do we have to use the plant food/fertilizer?

The plant's label says it is to be fertilized every month, the label of the fertilizer says it feeds up to 9 months (2 lbs bottle), then the lady at Lowe's said that one tea spoon lasts 9 months. Can someone please tell me how often to use the food/fertilizer and how to tell when it is needed?

My sister just got a Petunia. How often do we have to use the plant food/fertilizer?
Its very late in the season for fertilizing any annuals...and if you are correct, its a Petunia, its an annual. Even in warmer climates, its just a late annual.

I Would plant it in a good top soil or potting soil and just use a VERY weak solution of water and the fertilizer. This time of year, everything is getting ready to go dormant. Fertilizing will damage it.

Just water often the first week you plant it and then after that, give it water only every couple of days, unless indirect sunlight. Then water once or twice a day.

Petunias are hard tokill....if you water it, it will grow. Avoid the fertilizer..return it if possible.
Reply:Petunias are annuals. Annuals die every year, that's what they do, no matter what you do that's how they grow and you can't change it. If you are in the northern hemisphere, there isn't much 'lifetime' left in your plant, so don't waste your money on fertilizer. Water it, and enjoy the blooms while it lasts. On the odd chance that it does survive your winter, you will not want to be encouraging it to grow until spring.

If you are in the antipodes, it will just be starting to grow. Annuals, especially annuals that have been hybridized as much as petunias have been, are *greedy*. I'd give it that teaspoonful every month.

Can I put a spider plant and a petunia in the same planter?

I wouldn't recommend it, the spider plant can get huge. If you transplant it before it takes over the petunias it'll be okay. But why would you want to?

Can I put a spider plant and a petunia in the same planter?
sure -but a petunia is better kept outdoors.

How do I care for a petunia?

My friend bought me one from WalMart, %26amp; she encouraged me to try a new hobby in caring for plants in order to manage stress. How often should I water it %26amp; what else do I need to do in order for it to grow healthy %26amp; fine %26amp; not die on me within 3 days?

In the past, I've tried to care for roses %26amp; make them grow, but they died within 3 days. I think I may have drowned it, not knowing how much water to put in it.

How do I care for a petunia?
these are the easiest to care for..... water it once a week (deeply.. till u can see water running out the bottom of the planter)... no fertilizer is needed, keep it in "allday" sun, then pick the drooping blooms off every other day or so... which is called "deadheading!" sit back and enjoy it's beauty!
Reply:Water daily-have at least 2hrs worth of sun.Should do fine! Give some miracle grow about once a week.
Reply:Water regularly for the plant to establish, and thereafter wait until the soil dries out before watering. Over watering will cause foliage to yellow and the plants will eventually die.

This plant does not like high humidity.

Fertilizing should be done once a month. Over fertilizing will result in an abundance of foliage with few flowers.

Petunias thrive in well-drained and fertile soil.

Pruning: Pinch out the growing tips when they reach a height of 3-4 inches to encourage bushy growth. Once the first flowering has taken place, pinch off the dead flowers and the stem to encourage more blooming.

OK, I copied this from a site. I have never had good luck with plants. But hopefully with this info you can do well with yours.
Reply:Carefully plant them in a sun and shade area and clip the tops off (usually current flowers) to build up root base for healthy growth. Don't keep soil constantly damp or wet, let it dry out between watering.
Reply:I just bought some petunias from the garden store and they told me they are very easy to grow. He said "Just give them a little fertilizer and keep the soil moist and they should grow easily". Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Will outdoor hanging baskets of petunia and impatients make it thru the winter if I bring them indoors?

I would love to save my hanging baskets for the summer, should I cut them back, take clippings, or is it a fruitless task?

Will outdoor hanging baskets of petunia and impatients make it thru the winter if I bring them indoors?
The impatients may, but the petunias are doubtful. Since impatients need little light they will most likely do alright. The petunias need full sun though and would require a lot of bright light.
Reply:no they are essentially annuals and succulents as well. so everything s against them from the start lol
Reply:These are really annuals which means they live for one year. I have put them in my greenhouse and had minimal luck. If you live in zone 9 (where it doesn't get a freeze), they might make it outdoors otherwise you can try bringing them in on cold days. I would trim them but no more than 1/3. They don't like being indoors for any amount of time but be sure to give them a sunny window when they are inside.
Reply:I have had inpatients growing inside for the past 3 years along with my Hibiscus Tree (that grows like crazy, no flowers). They get leggy and I snip them back and they keep on growing and flowering.
Reply:We do this every year with other potted plants. We have a table set up in front of a south facing window. We cut them back by half. Sometimes we even get flowers during the winter. You can use liquid fertilizer if you wish. Be sure to read the directions for "houseplants". Next spring when the nights are in the 70's, put them back outside, scratch in Osmocote slow-release fertilizer and water well. Continue with the liquid fertilizer too every 7 to 14 days.
Reply:Yes they will make it, just dont over water and make sure they get enough sunlight, good luck.

How do I cut or trim a petunia so it doesn't look scraggly?

I like to put petunias in containers in the summer. But they grow so unevenly and scraggly. Can I cut them? If I cut them will they then create two branches?

How do I cut or trim a petunia so it doesn't look scraggly?
Have you dead headed them? Everytime a bloom dies, they go to seed and rob the nutrients from more blossoms to develop and open. Check it out. Pull a dead flower off and look what is growing. It should be a cone shaped pod that will suck til it's dry(brown) and then it will open and drop little black seeds all over the leaves around them. Pinch the pods, just below the 5 leaves it is growing in, daily and it will bush back. Miracle grow is a good idea too.
Reply:yes putunias can be cut back but not to short,,then make sure you give them some miracle grow...i do this alot
Reply:Pinch the ends of each growing branch, and also pinch off all dead flowers and seedheads. Water generously. Wait.
Reply:Definitely cut off all the old scraggly stems and old blooms. The plant will respond with new growth and more flowers. I find if I pinch off the old flowers as they fade the plants are healthier and bushier.

Petunia confusion, when the flower is old what part of the flower do you remove?

do you just remove the petals or the whole thing so it will rebloom?

Petunia confusion, when the flower is old what part of the flower do you remove?
The whole point of removing the spent flowers is so that the plant will not form a seed pod, and spend a bunch of energy and resources making seeds. You want it to spend energy making more flowers instead.

If you remove only the petals, the seed pod will still form. Pinch it off BEHIND the base of the flower (the little swollen part between the end of the stem, and the petals). That way, no seed pod.
Reply:Remove the petals as well as the as the calyx (the green parts that "support" the petals). Be especially sure to remove the ovary of each blossom, so that the plant doesn't set seed, and quit blooming.
Reply:Hi, remove the whole thing. Arn't they pretty? Bye
Reply:Remove the dead bloom. If the plants get long and scraggly you can cut them back and they will form new shoots.
Reply:Remove the old flower completely or any seed pods that you can find. That will keep it blooming.
Reply:Just the petals...it is called "deadheading".

How do I keep my petunia baskets looking nice?

I have 2 hanging baskets of wave petunias. I bought them in full bloom and have had them about a month. I've been deadheading them almost daily and keeping them watered but I've noticed that they seem to be producing fewer blooms. The temperature dropped here about 10 days ago and we had some severe winds. I'm not sure if that's the problem or if I need to do something more with the plants themselves. What do you think?

How do I keep my petunia baskets looking nice?
In the spring sometimes they baskets are prepared and the root system isn't real good yet. Even if you did it yourself

the roots just aren't that strong this early in the season.

Mine were not blooming very well. I used some rooting stuff and they are beautiful now. Maybe that would help.

Don't you just love flowers?
Reply:when you water your plants feed with diluted fertilizer solution same as the green houses do...the soil typically used is poor and the plants have nothing to feed off...
Reply:"Super Juice" them. Miracle grow or bloom booster. Flowers, ahhhh, heaven.

How to winterize petunia?

I have a petunia on my balcony and I am wondering if it will survive the winter outside. I live in Cleveland OH. Should I bring it inside?

How to winterize petunia?
Petunias are annuals and don't generally overwinter. Start with new plants in the spring.
Reply:Although petunias like cool weather, they are not frost tolerant. Keep them inside during the winter and wait until all danger of frost is past before placing your petunias back outdoors.
Reply:Hi petunias are annual, which means it will most likely die. It needs to be planted every year (its a seasonal plant) If you want a stronger lasting plant that will last year round, buy a perenial. A petunia likes the cold, and it needs to sun.

What am I doing wrong with my super petunia?

I have a super petunia in a hanging basket in a location where it gets afternoon sun. I water it twice a day, once in the morning and again when I get home from work. My boyfriend baught it for me and doesn't know anything about it other then it needs lots of water. It's not flowering much and many parts of it are brown and dried up or yellow even though it rarely gets dry between watering.

what I am doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong with my super petunia?
The recent heat has played havoc with petunias. When it is really hot, move to a shady location. Cut them back to about 4-5" which will probably eliminate your brown leaves and you will get beautiful new growth and flowers in a couple of weeks. Buy some "Bloom Booster" for them too.
Reply:You are over watering. Water it in the morning before the sun is on it or at night after sundown. Pinch the brown off and let it dry a little.

My petunia is bearing a whole bunch of seeds, how should I plant them next year?

I bough a hanging petunia in may, and I was so stupid I used miracle gro everyday on it for about 2 weeks. I though it would have died but now its huge, and overgrown. Last week I started seeing brown stems with brown pockets. I got an evelope and opened up the pockets and a whole bunch of tiny black seeds came out. I have a lot of them, how should I plant them next year? Should I sow them indoors first. I need some advice on this one.

p.s, one last thing, my sweet peas are only about a foot high, i started growing them in may and they are so short. when will they flower? should i sow them inside next year in march?

Thanks.

My petunia is bearing a whole bunch of seeds, how should I plant them next year?
Yes--next Spring plant your Petunia seeds inside in several large planters using potting soil.

There are alot more seeds in one little pod than you may think.

About your Sweetpeas. Need to start them inside also.

Not sure where you live but even in Northren N.Y. there is still plenty of growing season left.

Have Fun Gardening !!! :)))
Reply:Don't!
Reply:You absolutely can plant your petunia seeds. I grow petunias from seed every year, some on purpose, most 'do it themselves'. I have about a 5 foot area below my deck that is a spectacular display of self-sown petunias. I have a walk-out basement, so deck is one story off the ground. I have planters on my deck railing and usually put petunias in them, along with other things. Under my deck is pea gravel. The seed from the petunias fall from the deck and apparently the pea gravel must be great for starting the seeds. I would have never planted anything in the gravel, but several years ago when I was pulling up the occasional weed, I though one looked like a petunia and let it grow. It was a silver wave petunia that grew many feet wide (like I'd had in the planters the year before). Now get more and more every year. They are cross-breeding and giving me varieties I have never purchased, like dark pink and white stripped. I call it 'my great petunia breeding experiment'. People don't believe I never planted anything there. I do nothing and it looks great.
Reply:Those tiny seeds will not result in a very nice petunia next year. Most of the petunias we buy as plants are hybrids... their seeds generally return the plant to it's natural state when they grow... also- it's not likely the colors will be the same as the plant the seeds came from. Yet, as a side project it can be fun to cultivate a small natural petunia or two. (But don't count on having to "not buy" your petunia's again next year!)
