The first thing you need to do is to take them out of their small pots, and put them into larger pots -- for example, you can put about 4 plants together in a pot that is about 12" in diameter. Use good quality potting soil in the pot. Add slow release fertilizer to the pot (12-12-12) -- make certain that it is slow release, or you can kill the plants. Put you pot outdoors in a sunny place, as both petunias and dianthus like the sun. Water regularly -- depending on how much heat and rain you get, you may need to water your pot every day. If you plants start to look droopy, then they are not getting enough water. After about two months, you will then need to to start fertilizing every two weeks with a water soluble fertlizer (20-20-20 is pretty standard).

Can't help you with the insect!
Reply:Try dead-heading...once the flowers wilts and dies pick it off, the plant will continue to flower because its trying to make seeds so when you pick off the old flower its thinks its been eaten or something and makes a new one.
