Help! The Goffers are eating all my petunias?

These things are driving me crazy. I can't lay any type of poison because I have a dog that goes in the yard. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Help! The Goffers are eating all my petunias?
I find that putting mothball around the plant helps. They dont like the smell so they leave. The moth ball wont hurt your dog....but the dog wont like the smell eaither. However, they wont hurt the dog unless of course, he eats them, wich I never seen or heard of a dog that ate them!!!
Reply:I also have a problem with my petunias. The damage seems to be in the roots as well as the flower. It could be chipmunks since I see them all the time. A gardener told me to try placing fresh garlic cloves around the flower and I will try this remedy since it won't hurt pets or the environment. Report It

Reply:ask at a home and garden store. btw- they are GOPHERS.
Reply:Use Liquid Fence...it works on almost all critters. It stinks really bad when you first spray it, so just make sure your windows are closed.
Reply:What are they going for? Oh, you mean gophers. Ask at your local nursery.
Reply:Hi,

I have had similar problems. I have placed bird netting around flowers I want to protect. I attach the netting to tall swooden stakes with a bit of wire or twine. It is much easier and cheaper than putting up a fence. You can buy bird netting, fruit tree netting, or deer netting (all are the same thing) in Home Depot, or most hardware stores, even Wal-Mart should have it.

You can fasten it to the ground with landscaping pins (also at hardware stores) or a few bricks or rocks.

Best luck!
