Is "deadheading" necessary with trailing petunias or are they self-cleansing?

Deadheading is beneficial to most flowering annuals because it allows the nutrients that the plant is receiving to go to the healthy parts of the plant vs the dead/weakend parts of the plant..........resulting in more blooms and fuller%26amp; more bushy plants.....you can just let mother nature do her thing - rain and wind will wipe out some of the old blooms, but it won't be as much as you can do by hand....every day would be ideal, but if you can do it every 2-3 days it will produce benefical results
