My hanging baskets of petunias died?

I bought 4 hanging baskets of petunias from our local nursery. The leaves had white spots on them and under the lip of the basket was a white silky cocoon type thing.

They died after about 4 weeks.I fed and watered them.

My hanging baskets of petunias died?
I think the white spots and the cocoons are not related!

The white spots, Were they on the tops of the leaves, and turning slightly Gray after a while? Powdery Mildew

Were they under the leaves and Grey blotches showing up through the tops? Downy mildew.

If you live where the rain has been steady for a while this spring the molds and mildews are out of control!

I must suggest how ever if that you bought the plants looking like that, then the nursery has careless, dirty growing practices and you were doomed from the start!

Lastly although petunias are heavy feeders, too much of a good thing will kill any one. Too much food and too much water will burn the roots and water log the plants. Better luck next time, Bugsie
Reply:They are Gypsy Moths they Kill everything be very careful when you buy from nursery's..Now these moths get in your trees and there hard to get rid of
Reply:definitely take them back to the nursery
Reply:see if you can get replacements. They were probably already infected when you bought them.
Reply:awwww!!! ='(
Reply:The had an insect infestation. Take them back to the nursery and ask for your money back. Those baskets are expensive.
Reply:Aphids, burn them, don't touch anything afterwards, and keep everything they touched hospital clean in case its a fungus. Caterpillars maybe?
Reply:They had a type of fungus which killed your plants. What I would do is call the nursery and explain the situation(hope you kept your receipt and plants) and ask them to either replace them or refund your purchase. Hope this works. Usually businesses are pretty fair about situations if you keep your cool and are honest.
Reply:Take them back and get replacements. Show them the plants. Hope you still have the receipt.
