What is eating my flowers?

What kind of bug is this? I have alot of them and they are eating my petunias, is there anything I can do to stop them? I have planted petunias in the same spot for the past 3 years and never saw them before..please help!!

those are called Japanese Beatles...they are also eating my flowers and my apple tree...but don't worry their season is almost over..they are dieing

Reply:Those are Japanese beetles. They love roses, too. They make traps for them at the hardware store. Or, you can just pick them off by hand and drown them in a jar with some alcohol in the bottom. That is what I used to do for my mom and her roses when I was young. They don't bite or anything, just wiggle a bit and tickle.
Reply:These are ageus stronpous, your run-of-the-mill plant eating beatle, u can buy a insecticide at your local hardware store or gaderning depot for the treament of almost all insects in your lovley petunias
