How can I get rid of these beetles that are eating my plants?

I have these beetles in my garden that are black in color with this soft rainbow colored shell on top that are eating my basil plants and petunias ect... They leave this skeleton effect on the leaves and I can't seem to get rid of them. There are a lot of them too. I don't want to kill my plants with sprays and I want to be able to eat my basil instead of the beetles eating it! Thanks for the help.

None of the above. What you have are June, or Japanese beetles that will lay eggs in the soil in the next few months and lay dormant as "C" shaped grubs that will ruin your lawn. When they turn to beetles in the summer, there will not be anything left intact in your garden!

Wal-mart sells some bug traps, for one or two bucks. You can get them anywhere at this time. They come in some green boxes, I think the brand is Ortho, but not sure. They work wonders. They are a plastic bag shaped like a funnel with a pheromone lure. The bugs go in, can't come out. Boy does it attract them!

Just make sure you set it in a downwind area of your property
Reply:Try chili powder. The hotter the better! I read that anything HOT will get rid of pests.
Reply:THIS IS A NATUal remedy that i have used and seems to work so far.

blend red chillys, garlicwith a sprinkle of washin powder.

add water so that it is thin enough to go through a normal spray bottle. Let sit for at least 24 hrs then sieve.
